Another New Blog …

Well, I’m officially tired … tired of trying to manage multiple blogs that is.  So I’ve created a new one that will be a catch-all blog.  I also moved back to Blogger because I wanted to be able to customize it more.  Anyway, you can read it here, and here’s a screen shot :) —

It’s been a while ….

November 27, 2007 at 9:41 am | Posted in blogging, books, cooking, knitting, Links I Like, sewing | 3 Comments

My goodness it has been a long time since I have posted on here! But it hasn’t been a long time since I have been sewing and cooking and knitting and such. I thought I should change the look of this blog too…… sooooo…… how do you like it?

What have I been up to???

Sewing …. I have been sewing so much and loving every minute of it. I took a break for a while when school started back, but now I am back in the swing of things and currently working on my littlest’s birthday dress … it will be so cute, if I do say so myself.

Knitting … I taught myself to knit a couple of years ago, but over the past couple of weeks I have learned more about knitting and have made scarves for gifts and I am about to venture into making hats for my girls. It is so much easier to knit than you might think. Check out knittinghelp.com for free online videos and the best DVD I have seen on the subject is I Can’t Believe I’m Knitting – I got this at my library and it is very well made IMHO (much better than their book by the same name).

Cooking … I’ve been really watching what I have been eating lately and have lost weight! My secret – counting calories. Yes, the old fashioned calories in/calories out “technique” still works wonders. That and exercising :) Eating Well magazine is excellent, as is their book The Essential Eating Well Cookbook — I highly recommend them!

So that is what I have been up to … I will try and post more often than I have been ….

Blessings!

WFMW: Laundry on Vacation???

June 13, 2007 at 6:44 am | Posted in blogging, laundry | 4 Comments

wfmwheader.jpgYes, I do all my laundry while on vacation.  We just returned home this past weekend and, again, I was reminded how nice it is to return home with no big piles of laundry to wash and dry and fold and put away.  Here’s what I do …

I pile up my laundry while on vacation (laundry baskets are nice for this).  Then on the next-to-the-last night of vacation I wash and dry and fold it all.  Then at some point on the last day while packing to return home I simply pack it all up like I did when packing for the trip.  When I return home all I have to do is unpack and put all the laundry away.

There are 2 things I hate to come home to: a messy house (I also make sure my house is clean before I leave) and a pile of laundry.

After years and years of the dreaded laundry-pile-upon-returning-home I decided to try this and found it to be much better than waiting until I got home.  So now part of my packing is filling up a snack-sized plastic bag with quarters (ya never know how much machines will cost!) for the laundry.

Have a :) day!

Why “Heart Condition”?

May 22, 2007 at 9:25 am | Posted in blogging | Leave a comment

Okay, so am I a blog addict or what? Really, I am an internet junkie and blogs sort of help me with that addiction. I used to design websites and the like, but they’ve become so complicated with all the CSS and XML and the like and I just don’t feel like learning all the new coding. So blogging is my “out”.

Anyway, I am a purist and I like to keep things separate. So now I have my thinking/reflection blog – free heart reflections, my homeschooling blog – Good Soil, and now my homemaking blog – Heart Condition.

Why the name “Heart Condition”? Well, I like the above quote: Farm girl is a condition of the heart. And that’s me. A farm girl at heart. I even embroidered that saying last year and framed it and it’s sitting on my kitchen counter. What does farm girl mean to me? Well …

vegetable gardening, slamming screen doors, kids playing outside all day, sewing and quilting and knitting and embroidering, cooking, cleaning, laundry, fresh air, chickens (wish I had ’em!), and so much more!

Won’t you join me as I endeavor to learn more about keeping my home and making a place of peace? I promise to share my journey with you …
